Artist Bio

My paintings typically engage with concepts of portraiture and figure, but through the use of distortion, disfigurement, and altercation of the human form, I aim to breathe new life into this subject matter. I draw inspiration from the art movement known as “disrupted realism,” which employs discombobulation and fragmented forms to disorient the viewer’s perception. This encourages introspection and invites dialogue about the interconnectedness of history and modern problems. By manipulating my references through techniques like digital alteration and physical distortion, I am able to create new perspectives that challenge traditional forms.

After a thorough research process and the creation of concept sketches, I delve into my work. By investigating the topics I work with first, I am able to better embed symbolism and meaning into each piece. This ongoing exploration influences not only the development of my paintings but also the choice of media. I gravitate towards oil on canvas, but I also work with mixed media, selecting combinations that best express my vision and concept.

I address themes of history, social media, and contemporary issues. Each artwork serves as a reflection on our past and present, urging viewers to consider the impact of our actions for the future. As you view my work and contemplate the past and future, remember that, “history does not repeat itself but it sure does rhyme.”
